“Every addiction arises from an unconscious refusal to face and move through your own pain. Every addiction starts with pain and ends with pain. Whatever the substance you are addicted to –alcohol, food, legal or illegal drugs, or a person — you are using something or somebody to cover up your pain. That is why, after the initial euphoria has passed, there is so much unhappiness, so much pain in intimate relationships. They do not cause pain and unhappiness. The bring out the pain and unhappiness that is already in you. Every addiction does that. Every addiction reaches a point where it does not work for you anymore, and then you feel the pain more intensely than ever. ”
~Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now pg152-153)
Wise words indeed. You’ve got me thinking, as usual! Red xx

Red! I’m not able to comment on your blogs these days. Once I put in my email address, it just crashes. It’s not just your site, so I’m sure it’s my issue. I’ve got a work order in now for them to fix it.
Just wanted you to know because I love your blog. 💕

My parents are Canadian and they use the word “ruddy.” I almost never hear it except from them, so thank you! 💕
Yes, I hope they get it sorted out. It’s frustrating to read and not be able to comment. So glad you’re hanging in there!

Such true words! So many people seem to want “immediate gratification”-a quick fix-without doing any of the work involved. The thing is, that no matter how much one tries to numb their pain, it always-ALWAYS- seeps out. Until it’s delved into, felt, acknowledged, and processed. Painful? Yes. Scary? Absolutely! BUT, without doing the work, it will never go away. That pain will always be in control.
Thanks for the words!

It’s almost like there’s a worldwide conspiracy to cover up the truth about alcohol. We have so many meetings and community awareness groups around drugs here, but it’s the alcohol-related car crashes that dominate the headlines. Thanks for posting! 💕

So true. Wise words indeed. There is no ducking this stuff. If we try to run from it, it will always catch us.
